December Pawpost | A Review

December Pawpost

What is Pawpost?

Well is another one of these subscription services dedicated to bringing suprises to your doorstep on a regular basis. Pawpost delivers once a month and there are a variety of supscribtions from £22.95 for a one month subscription and £17.95 for a twelve month subscription. All of the subscription do auto renew (like many of these gift boxes) so you must remember to cancel quickly if you  don't wish to receive anymore boxes, alternately  you could just gift yourself a box to try them.

What i Received

With Pawpost the packaging is very cute!

  1. The first thing was a Billy + Margot cracker (RRP £5.99) in the Apple, Banana & Carrot variety.
I like this gift and I'm saving it until Christmas day to open and try the biscuits with my dogs, it looks super sweet under the tree. I really like that it is gluten free and made with ingredients that not only i recognise but would use when cooking for my dogs myself.

Ingredients: Oat, Barley, Carrot, Chicken Fat, Apple, Seaweed, Linseed, Banana, Yeast Extract, Cinnamon.

2. A sample of Turkey & Flaxseed Treats from Tribal (RRP £2.99 for a full size bag)
Cute little add on, again I love the gluten free and healthy side to it, however I tried these with Jet and Bear and neither was very interested, I will try again however.

Ingredients: Gluten free flour, turkey, olive oil, flaxseed, rosemary extract.

3. Good Karma Rope Toy by Jax and Bones (RRP $13.50)
This is my favourite item in this box by far! Why? Well I could only find it on US sites, which makes it unique and completely new to me, and of course, Bear loves it, he even gave it a special place in his bed (lucky gingerbread man).

4. Lily's Kitchen Christmas Dinner (£2.49)
Fantastic, well loved brand, with a brilliant ingredient list. I know a certain poodle that is going to be very happy having this as an extra Christmas present!

5. Slip on Bandana by Creature Clothes (RRP £9.95)
I got a super cute red polka dotted one, which is pretty prefect for Bear as most of his things are red. Bear doesn't normally wear a collar as we prefer a harness and his hair isn't suited to long term wear, however this will be great when he needs to look cutsie and also as a natural flea collar!

Overall

4/5

I did really like this box, however I had some issues with my box not turning up which was very annoying, although it did get sorted out which is good. What let it down for me is that my doggies didn't like the biscuits and thats a labrador and the greediest little Pom there ever was! It was a box that was good value for money and I loved the Gingerbread George.

Beach Walks

We all know how vital exercise it, both to ourselves and our four legged friends, mentally and physically. One of my favourite places to get out and active is the beach, in the winter we are lucky enough to have unlimited access to miles of beaches.

Bear and Duke are too beach lovers, unlike my big dogs they aren't fans of swimming and they much prefer a good game of chase, believe it or not Duke at nine can outrun a lot of dogs, Bear doesn't stand a chance!

Remember winter can be cold, so wrap up warm and if your dog needs a coat or jumper (like Duke) make sure its well fitting with plenty of room for mobility!

Fishy Feast for Dogs

Personally I believe in cooking for my dogs, after many horrifying facts about the pet food industry and the improvements it has lead to with my dogs. Obviously all dogs are different and you should consult a vet if you think anything is wrong with your dog.

This recipe is a favourite of my labrador, he will do anything for fish, especially tuna!

Fishy Feast Recipe

  • 75g of pearled barley
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • a handful of green beans
  • can of salmon (about 200g)
  • can of tuna (about 200g)
  • three white fish fillets (between 200g-250g)
  • 2 eggs
  • walnut oil
  • multivitamin/supplement of your choice

  1. To start i rise and soak the pearled barley for at least a couple of hours but preferably over night.
  2. Then prepare everything, cut the veg, potatoes and fish finely, hard boil the eggs, then grind the shells (for calcium) and chop the egg.
  3. Start to cook the barley as the packet instructs and throw in the potatoes (remember its good to over cook grains and carbs as it makes it easier to digest). I also add a couple of teaspoons of walnut oil here.
  4. With about five minutes cooking time left for the barley add the veg and fish.
  5. Once all cooked add the egg and shells and your multivitamins, allow to cool and hey presto, doggie dinner!

Depending on your pups size you may want to freeze anything that isn't going to be eaten in a couple of days. This recipe can be doubled (halved or quadrupled) for multidog households and/or large dogs.

Meet The Pups!

Let me introduce you to the family...

This adorable little guy is Bear, he is a Pomeranian terror, cute is his name and naughty is his game. Born on the 10th of August 2014, he is a little over four months now. Intelligent, super playful and definitely the little baby!

This mucky pup is Rocky, he is a big strong Staffordshire bull terrier, he is an addition to the family through my wonderful boyfriend. Super loving, cheeky and a great lover of water and mud!

My working bred labrador, Jet. 8 years old and still a still goofball, it's true that labradors never ever ever grow up (peter pan anyone)? He loves gardening (well checking for escape routes and hiding toys), long walks and good food (perfect match anyone)?

Duke the poodle. He is a slight add on to the family, as he is actually my Mums dog, but he would have been so upset to be left out. Like all poodles he is very intelligent, loves being cuddled and babied and is a very good guard dog.
